Hi!
So, yesterday I got my septum pierced (for those of you who don't know what that is, it's the space in-between your nostrils).

I am just wondering if I should get tested for STD's and the like...the young man that owned the shop had a terrible bedside manner but he pulled clean utensils out of packages and I saw his autoclave and his certificate(s).

But, he said he was the only one working there, yet there were tons of other names on the wall. He was very flirtatious and extremely blunt. My roommate told me that his bedside manner has nothing to do with the cleanliness (it looked extremely clean). Should I get tested? Yes, no?

Personally, if the guy who did the piercing preped everything in front of you, including opening up a brand new needle out of it's packaging, used utensils out of the autoclave, and didn't seem to try to hide anything, I wouldn't think there would be a need to be checked out.

But, if you need the piece of mind, you should get tested. Even if you had this piercing done by a doctor in the most sterile hospital ever, and you heard a rumor that they weren't so clean, you're going to drive yourself crazy!

Good luck

In most cases you are ok as long as the facility looked clean. The place should look like a hospital (put painted up like most piercing/tattoo parlors). If everything came out of the autoclave you should be fine. Do you remember if the strip on the package had a brownish color? That usually means that it has already been in the autoclave. I personaly would have waited until there was someone at the parlor that I felt I could trust or I would have gone somewhere else. If it will make you feel better you can go and get tested (if you have an active sex life you should be tested anyway) but I believe that it would not show up on tests for a certain period of time. Maybe look online to see how long it will take for STD's to show up in your tests because you would not want to get a false negative. My bet is that you are going to be just fine as long as you keep it clean and without infection but if you do have concerns consult your doctor about the possibilities of STD's or infection due to dirty tools. Good luck.

It's unlikely that there is an issue, but if it causes you disquiet it's best to get tested anyway.

What are you worried about?

Anyone that would pierce places like this shouldn't be worried about anything but their intelligence.
