I am finally going to a French hairdresser to get my tresses cut. Skyblue I will be using the phrases you gave me( all totally appropriate) as my daughter and two sons are coming to have theirs cut too. Are we doing the right thing, yes, of course we are. Wish us luck!!

We did it! I don't know why I panicked so much. Okay so we didn't really understand what each of us was saying, but I now feel totally glam with my new cut. 4 inches shorter, my daughter had 8 inches taken off and the boys have been scalped, but we look good. Thank you for all your wonderful advice!!

Depends what kind of hair cut you want for yourself and the kids. The hairdresser may speak some English; and they won't mind sign language, I hope :-)

Now, here are a few phrases below that may help:

Bonjour, je voudrais une coupe pour moi et les enfants.
Hello, I would like a hair cut for me and the children.

Just trim the hair, please.
Juste rafraîchir la coupe, s'il vous plaît.

Short: court

Not too short : pas trop court

Ears: oreilles

Shorter: plus court

Long: long (that one is easy :-) brushing, shampoo are the same too.

A fringe: une frange

What do you suggest: qu'est-ce que vous pensez?

Show me a picture: montrez-moi une photo.

Conditioner: traitement.

Too hot: trop chaud

Too cold: trop froid

Blonde: blond
Red: roux
Brunette: brune
