I have two cats... one male (binx) and the other a female (luna). The female seems to be getting something under her neck, feels like a ball... and she has never had it before, and on the same side (the right) she has wounds on her mouth (not inside the mouth, the outside of it).
What can it be? And what should i do?

OMG Poor kitty! =( Sweet little thing. Is she acting fine otherwise? Observe her closely so that when you take her to the vet, you can tell him/her whether or not her behavior was normal or a little off. Any sign can be a symptom (or not) and any kind of information that you can provide will help your doctor.

Important things to consider:

* Appetite. Is she eating normally? ("Normal" meaning normal for her, not any other cat.)
* Activity. Sleeping more/less? Playful or not?
* Eyes/Skin. Do they appear very yellow or jaundiced? Unfortunately, that can be a sign of a serious problem and in that case, get her to the vet ASAP.
* Breath. Does it smell stinkier than usual?
* Bathroom habits. Any changes? Sounds stinky, but paying attention to those kinds of things is REALLY telling if cats have problems. =(
* Coat. Any changes?

I'm no expert, but I lost my beautiful beloved Baby Kitty (wasn't really a baby, though, he was 14 years old! But they're all our babies aren't they? =)) to FIV. I'm sure that's not what your kitty has, but those signs I listed are all things to look for that signal something may be off.

Regardless, get your honey girl to the vet...quickly, just like you would yourself if you found some kinda lumpy weirdness in you =).

I hope all goes well and let me know what happens, I'm sure I can learn from it, too!

Is there any oozing or discharge coming from the swelling? If so, he could have gotten bitten (do you have any other indoor cats that he may not have gotten along with? Or is there a chance he could have gotten outside at all, even for a little bit, and gotten into a cat fight with another cat?) A bite is serious and can lead to a bad infection, so he must get to the vet to get this checked out. If it just "looks like a lump", that "makes him look fat", as you say...PLEASE get him to the vet ASAP, no matter how much he hates his carrier. I don't want to scare you, as it could be nothing, or something more minor, but I noticed a swelling, the way you are describing it, on my 10 year old cat 2 summers ago. It didn't hurt him, in fact, the only reason why I took him to the vet was because I noticed he was losing some weight, but since the lump didn't appear to hurt him, I thought nothing of it. It turned out to be cancer of the lymph node, and unfortunately there was nothing the vet could do at that stage. My biggest regret is wishing I had noticed it sooner, because I have no idea if he could have lived longer than he did. He was my baby and I still cry when I think about him sometimes, seriously. So, no matter how much your kitty doesn't like his carrier, be gentle with him, talk to him in a soothing voice, and find a way to get him calmly into the carrier and to the vet as soon as you can. I hope everything turns out for the best, I really do.

It could be the start of a tumor. It could also possibly be a knot of infection and puss. Take her to the vet as soon as possible. Also watch for any other symptoms, eating habits, change in behavior, becoming lathargic. If you can't afford a regular vet, then go to your local Humane Society, they offer vet care at a very reasonable rate, and in some cases will set up a payment plan for you. Good Luck, Hope Luna gets better soon!

Agree with most of the answers so far. How did those wounds happen around the muzzle? Sounds like infection, possibly of the scent gland (gland on the side of the face near the ear. That's why cats rub their faces along surfaces to mark territory via that gland.) Head for the vet pronto!

Did she recently get an injection? My male got the same thing from having an annual shot, yet the following year it didn't happen. In his case it was an "injection site" reaction, where a hair or dirt went in with the needle. It eventually shrank.

It could be an infection from a bite or something. But only a vet can make sure. They might drain it.

My dog had a similar ball on her neck. At first, we were very concerned and took her to the vet, but they said It was nothing to worry about. It never seemed to bother her, never got any bigger or smaller, and she died many years later from something completely unrelated.

Still, your cat may not have exactly the same thing. It could be nothing, but it could be as serious as a tumor. There’s no way anyone here is going to be able to tell you exactly what it is, so I would take your cat to the vet, just to be safe. They’ll either tell you it’s nothing and put your mind at ease, or they’ll tell you it’s something and give her the treatment she needs. It’s a win-win situation.

becuase of the presence of the wounds, i suspect that the swelling at the neck is an abscess. If it is, then it is ful of pus and the vet needs to drain it, treat the wound and give kitty a course of antibiotics. Whether it is indeed an abcess or not, you need to have the swelling seen by your vet before it gets any worse.

It's vet time. You need to have the vet check her out. He/she may have to open up the ball and drain it. Cats are famous for getting boils.

The only thing you can do is take her to the vet no one on here can help you only a vet can. And from the sounds of it I would not wait to long to get there!!
