I would say to see if there are trends in specific crimes within certain areas or in the city or state as a whole. The department can then try to address those specific crimes that are taking place by beefing up patrols during certain times or in certain areas.

LIke "naseldrip" said to see if we have to arrest more innocent people. I guess we have to keep the percentage of that up? I hadn't heard that before but I guess I was only a cop for a bit over 20 years.
Glad to know why we needed that. I thought it was so we could do crime statistical analysis and respond better to given trends in victimization.
I am truly living and learning thanks to the incite and analysis of this challenged speller.

What better way to track what kind of crimes you have occurring in your city? Let alone where they're occurring, when, etc.
Tell you what though.....what a pain in the butt to compile. Data bases have to be populated and then searched. People love numbers.
