Okay, I have a friend who loves to argue with me about stupid things... neither of us are serious, just playing around because the topics are pretty funny to jabber about while on our way to get food, etc.

So check this out...

What is a deviled egg? When someone says, "I would like a deviled egg"... what do they get? Is it... one egg half with the filling in it? Or do they get both? If you give someone one egg half with filling in it, have you given them ONE deviled egg, or a piece of a deviled egg? We don't know but we go round and round on it, and it's fun, what do you guys think? If I make deviled eggs with 6 eggs, do I make 12 deviled eggs or 6?

Question two... is cheesecake a cake, or is it a pie? It has a crust like a pie, it sits in a pie pan, but mysteriously it is called a cake. The filling is even pie-like. So is it a cake? What is this darned thing!?!

I hope you guys will have fun answering this one, and I'm anxious to see what you have to say!

Cheesecake is neither it is not a type of cake like you may get from the name. hence its one word (I'd say its more of a baked custard but that's personal).

Checking the dictionary again its one half of the egg filled that is a deviled egg. for properly done ones you should be using almost one full yolk with the nicest halves(the other parts go in egg salad or feed to the dog or something).

Noun 1. cheesecakecheesecake - made with sweetened cream cheese and eggs and cream baked in a crumb crust

Noun 1. deviled eggdeviled egg - halved hard-cooked egg with the yolk mashed with mayonnaise and seasonings and returned to the white

I think all of our cholesterol has gone up from this question

A single deviled egg is one-half the white of an egg with the filling. If I boil a dozen eggs, it makes two dozen "deviled eggs" - almost enough for our family gatherings.

A cheesecake is a cheesecake. It's like asking if brownies are candy or cake (it doesn't appear to be a cookie) - you can make "fudgelike" brownies or "cake-like" brownies just by changing how many eggs you add to the recipe. Likewise, cheesecake can be unbaked, or baked, and is really neither a cake nor a pie, as the crust doesn't hold the filling, nor is it usually solid enough to be served without the crust. Personally, I think "cheesecake" is a category all to itself. Just like the brownie. By the way, real cheesecakes are not baked in a pie pan, but in a "springform pan" that has removable sides. I've never understood these "cheesecakes" that show up at family gatherings and potlucks that look like pies.

#1 Half a boiled egg with filling is "a" deviled egg (6 whole eggs makes 12 deviled eggs)
#2 This one got me thinking! Just for the sake of argument, I say it's cake (but you're right it has the characteristics of a pie)

Great questions!! ;-))

A deviled egg is a hard boiled egg that has the yolk taken out of it. The yolk is then mixed with mayo among other things and put back into the white part. I think they would a half with filling when asking for a deviled egg.

Secondly cheesecake is a cake.

I can't answer question 2, but a deviled egg is 1/2 an egg.

1.) Deviled eggs are generally served in halves, so one half would be considered "a" deviled egg. 2.) Cheesecake takes on a cake-like consistency when baked, if it were a pie it would be called a pie.
