It'a an excellent food. You need to switch your pup gradually. You mix in a little bit for a week, then a little bit more, and so on. Do it slowly though so you don't upset puppys tummy

I have heard wonderful things about Innova puppy food. It is hard to find. I live in a rural community, but if I could find it, that is what I would feed to my Cavalier.

The process for changing over is not difficult. Start mixing small amounts of the new food in with the Eukanuba. After a couple of days, add more of the new food into the mix. This will get the puppy switched to the new food without bothering his digestive system - or being a change to his taste buds:)

I am feeding my Cavalier Royal Canin Puppy food. He is doing well with it. His stools are solid, and he eats less.

FYI: To those of you feeding your dogs the "cheap stuff." You are fooling yourself. Feeding premium dog food will save you. The premium foods are more nutritionally sense and satisfy the dog more easily. You will have to give your animals much less - therefore saving you money and trips to let the doggy outside to do its business.....

excellant food.................better than eukanuba.
even though eukanuba is not the far worst it is not the best. It is full of fillers and junk that is not good for your dog............

Innova is an excellant food...............All natural ingrediants.........and very healthy....................

there are more on the market that are very good also...........
california natural, solid gold, wellness, dick van pattens formula are a few more really good foods.

In order to change your dog over to a differant food you want to do it gradually.

On the first day of change, you should have plenty of the old dog food left. Add three quarters of their old food, and one quarter of the new food. You should do this for at least two days. After two days or so, add in another quarter, so you have half old food, half new food. Again, keep it at this level for another two days or so. Then add in a third quarter (one quarter old, three quarters new), and finally you can phase out the old food completely.

What happens if you don't do it gradually?
Stomach Cramps
Heartburn
Indigestion
Diarrhea
Vomitting
Refusal to Eat

Eukanuba is ranked the same as all the other grocery store foods, Alpo, Purina, Beneful. Additives, corn, wheat and by-products....Alot of filler. It is the equivalent of giving your dog McDonalds everytime you feed him. Taste great, but alot of future health concerns.

Innova is a good brand of food. If you read the label, most probably the first ingredient is a meat (chicken, Lamb Beef).

People balme the clerks of these stores for selling expensive foods. This isn't entirely true. The holistic foods are better quality. Vet bills are expensive enough that we want to do our best to avoid problems.

Supplement your dog with the odd raw bone (beef/lamb) (not cooked). Give him some fish oil (Tablet or liquid)...and we can hope that he will live along and good life!

Innova puppy isn't the best but is far better than Eukanuba. Switch gradually by giving 75% old food mixed with 25% new food. Gradually increase the new while decreasing the old. Good luck

Food being fed is a personal choice and is up to you. Whenever chaning to a new food do it slowly at least over 1 week. begin by putting 1/4 the new food and 3/4 the old do this mix for 2 days then up to half and half for 2 days then 3/4 to 1/4 for 3 days then go all new type.

I work at a dog kennel and there are not many dogs coming in with Innova. However, the owners feed their Bernese Mountain Dogs with Innova and they love it. But then again, those dogs will eat just about anything. It is true that it is very good for dogs. If he doesn't like it, you can always add hot water, canned food, or my dogs favorite, Iams gravy.

I really like Innova and used it for my dogs while i was still feeding dog food. However, i have had people report they had small dogs who developed crystals while on that food. Someone mentioned to me that cranberry can cause this and i seem to recall this on their ingredient list.
Anyway, I still recommend it or any of the 'super premium' foods like Merrick, Newman's Own, Nature's Variety Prairie Brand, Solid Gold, etc.

Here is a chart I found extremely helpful when I switched food for my cocker spaniel. I hope this helps. It looks like Innova ranks very well!!

Giving Dry Dog Food a Grade:
Start with a grade of 100:

For every listing of "by-product", subtract 10 points

For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat, meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points

If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points

For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points

If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. "ground brown rice", "brewer’s rice", "rice flour" are all the same grain), subtract 5 points

If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points

If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points

If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3 points

If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points

If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2 points

If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources), subtract 2 points

If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points

If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog isn’t allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points

If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog isn’t allergic to beef), subtract 1 point

If it contains salt, subtract 1 point

Extra Credit:

If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points

If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add 5 points

If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points

If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points

If the food contains fruit, add 3 points

If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points

If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points

If the food contains barley, add 2 points

If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points

If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point

If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point

For every different specific animal protein source (other than the first one; count "chicken" and "chicken meal" as only one protein source, but "chicken" and "turkey" as 2 different sources), add 1 point

If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point

If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free, add 1 point
