So, I was at the airport the other day on my way to a cruise and I saw a sign that said you can't bring, ninja throwing stars, or dynamite! I don't know a whole lot of people that would pack dynamite in their carry on.

I don't know - people bring some pretty weird stuff. Although, water doesn't strike me as exceptionally dangerous, and that's not allowed either.

I am also 100% opposed to those new "backscatter" X-ray machines that are popping up (in Phoenix now, soon in LA and other airports). What's under my clothes is between me, my doctor, my wife and God. No one else.

Well, the most logical point I can come up with is maybe a construction company or some kind of demolition company is flying out of town for something and bring dynamite to where they are going to start construction at. But even then I don't see the need for one, a group of people bringing something like that, and two, having to fly far for a construction or whatever kind of job for that anyways. Beyond that, I don't really see a Islamic Fascist reading the sign and then saying "Aw, man, ok, fine, here is my dynamite and throwing stars. You caught me! You're good." And then get on the flight dynamite and throwing star free.

But for most regular flights I really don't see the need for signs saying please no dynamite or throwing stars. It just seems to be insulting Old West and Ninja enthusiasts all over.

For bottle of waters I can see, because it may not be water. It could be a pure form of alcohol and sneaking a match on board and a piece of cloth would make a dandy Molotov cocktail to commit a disastrous act with. Can't be too careful, especially given how flexible we still are when it comes to airport security.

It's one of those legal requirements that doesn't necessary make sense.

I've been at an airport where there's a sign saying that the security inspection is not mandatory, but that boarding an aircraft requires a security inspection.

That's their way of establishing a legal fact that the passenger is voluntarily submitting to the inspection, and that every passenger is given the option of not being inspected if they wish. But if you refuse inspection, you won't be allowed to travel either.

i know that some signs are a "bit extreme", but there are some"extreme" weirdos in this world that would think of bringing explosives like this to an airport~ yes they are strict now..I mean to have a mom drink a lil baby formula from her baby's bottle is a bit strict (I think) personally...I would gag and possibly vomit(yes vomit)...if they had me do this...Thank God my son is now 18 mos old and drinks regular milk and apple juice...I don't mind sipping that to prove it was not an explosive but formula ...oh ikky poo!
