Tools
Word Count
OR
Right click on an empty space on toolbar at the top of Microsoft Word and at the bottom there is Word Count, select it and it will come up as a little window that you can move and keep up whilst you write.

It not only tells you how many words there is it tells you how many pages, characters (with spaces), characters (without spaces), paragraphs and lines. But why you would need to know some of these I don't know. Although it would be useful when your asking a question because you can just copy it into word and see how many characters.

Lastly, it was a simple question so why am I waffling on like this.
