fructose is metabolized directly by the liver where it is converted to liver glycogen. so it is metabolized using a non-insulin dependent pathway so it does not effect serum glucose levels and serum insulin levels like glucose based sugars. however it is more easily converted to a lipid then other sugars. so when liver glycogen stores are full and liver glycogen spills over it is very easily converted into a lipid and headed towards storage in the fat cell.
body composition should determine how much sugar "you" can tolerate in your diet. if body fat is high that is a direct indicator that your body has a glucose metabolism disorder and that simple sugars from any sources should be consumed at a minimum. early am and afternoon are the best times to eat fruits, etc. when dieting.

Yes - anything with calories can increase fat. Your body has the ability to convert carbs (including sugar), protein, and fat into body fat.
The claim that fructose is good and sucrose bad - is a lie.
Your body rapidly and easily "inverts" each sucrose molecule and 1 glucose and 1 fructose, it that converts the glucose into a fructose as the first inducition part of the Krebs cycle. Aside from vitamins and micronutients there is no difference between kool-aid and OJ and cola (which mostly have hi-fructose corn syrup). It also makes little difference if you eat an ounce of common starch or an ounce of any sugar, except that the starch is converted slightly slower.

Fructose can but it must be first converted into Glucose to be utilized. This process requires an expenditure of calories but there is still a new gain of calorie in take.
Brought in from natural foods, the additional fiber slows Fructose absorption to the blood. Refined in the form of high fructose corn syrup, it hits the blood very quickly and as with any and all situations: if you take it more calories than you burn you will gain fat.

"ose" sugars are pure carbohydrate, thus 1 gram of sugar = 1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories. However fructose is sweeter than refined sugar (sucrose) so less is needed for the same sweetness.

Just like bad fat (serving of french fries) there is good fat (serving of peanuts), just like bad sugar (Kool-aid)) there is good sugar (Fresh squeeze OJ) Its hard to avoid fats, sugar and carbs, you just have to take your pick. You will have 2 different results.

All food can cause weight gain if eaten too much. most fruits have a lot of water in them so it is suggested you eat them in the mornings so you don't have water gain showing in your weight.
