Adultery is any sexual content with anyone other than a spouse if married. That's it.

It all depends on how you define this commandment for yourself.

Every person will have their own personal interpretation.

May I ask you this {and I am not christian), just curious what you and others think:
What exactly did Jesus mean when he said, "You have heard it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery' {Ex. 20:14;
Deut. 5:18), but I [Jesus] say to you,
'That everyone who so much looks at a women {or visa-versa: a woman looking at a man; or a man looking at a man, or a woman looking at a woman) lustfully for her has *already* committed adultery with her in his heart = {thought - life) ! Matthew 5:27 and 28.

Think about this Scripture.

And I am not christian, I am Buddhist.

In my opinion, it is most beneficial for people to stay focused on the eyes of a person- this discipline on our part, shows respect for the other, helping to cultivate successful relationships, especially during times of communication. As a person thinks, so he or she will become, the bible says in Proverbs. And the Buddha spoke of this in the Dhammapa, 2,500 years ago.
He uses the term, Wise/Right Thoughts {part of the Eightfold Path).
Through introspection, we know where our heart or thought-life lies. The thought-life of a person, I believe, is just as important if not More important, than the words we speak, and our actions. If we think on something long enough, most often, that is what we'll speak, and eventually will act upon.

What do you and others think of the Scriptures in Matthew 5:27 and 28 spoken by Jesus ?

Maybe you, should ask this question to everyone in YahooLand, if your interested in people's responses.

Jesus said this about adultery in Matthew 5:32 "but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery." Sexual immorality is having sexual relations outside of marriage, Paul speaks of this in Colossians 3:5 "Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry." You can do a bible search or google search to read more on it.

The Biblical meaning of adultery is not the one we use in everyday speech. It includes all union with anyone who is not your spouse, (one man, one woman, so it would include all those things you listed.

The legal definition is much narrower, obviously, but you're asking about the commandment.

You complicate the definition of adultery. It is much simpler than that.

Adultery = The unlawful association of men and women.

Although generally having reference to illicit activity of married persons, the scripture often does not distinguish between the married and the unmarried.

Adultery is any sexual act or thought of an act with anyone other than your spouse. Viewing pornography is adultery. Jesus said if you look at a woman lustfully you have commited adultery already. Adultery is committed in the heart.

Sounds like it covers all the bases. Though if I were asked to define adultery I would've just said it was having relations with someone outside of your marriage.
If someone said their husband commited adultery I don't think my mind would automatically assume the husband slept with him mom...or his dad...or his dad's brother....or a cow.

And a note to cpoppa....no, not "everyone" lusts for other people outside of their marriage. I haven't so much as been attracted to one single person but my husband since the day i met him. That includes "hot" hollywood celebs. lol.
He fulfills everything for me, inside and out.
I know I'm not the only one who only has eyes for their significant other.

Adultery means "adultery". It is any sex outside of the bounds of marriage. All of the things you listed are types of adultery. But by also using the word "adultery", which means any sex outside of marriage, the Bible includes other acts not on your list.

In the context of the Ten commandments in The Bible it means you do not do "it" with any one except your husband... or wife as the case may be.... or even think about doing it.

elsewhere in the Bible it is stated you are not to do all the other things you list.

Adultery means voluntary sexual intercourse between a married man and someone other than his wife or between a married woman and someone other than her husband;
I think that's pretty clear.

pretty much expect adultry can also be when you lust for someone...which everyone does...
The point of the Ten commandments is to make you aware your a sinner and that you need to accept Christ as your Lord and saviour. It is only through him we can resist sinning which we do because we love God not because we have to in order to go to heaven...
PS: There is also spiritual adultry when you have idols and worship or give importance to other things such as wealth,food,women,men,movie stars etc more than the true God Jesus.
