No diet, unless medically prescribed, is safe for a 5 year old!!! They're growing and need more calories then an adult would need. Why on earth would you put that type of pressure on a child? Women are hard on themselves to begin with and don't need pressure at such a young age to lose weight. Let your child be chubby and happy. If the doctors aren't saying anything about them needing to lose weight, then leave them alone.

Defiantly not, a child this young should not be overweight but if they are the only sensible diet is to cut out very fatty and sugary foods, but I would only do this on a Doctors instructions.
The south beech diet is far to strict for a child, especially as it cuts out all fruit and most vegetable and carbohydrates. A child this young is still growing and needs a good varity of all food groups.

Unless under the care of a doctor I wouldn't recommend any diet for a 5yr old child.
To have them exercise more..always moving....(dancing, playing, walking, bike riding, skating, swimming) and to eat healthy meals and snacks rather than junk food or processed foods......More Chicken, Fish, Whole Grains (Pasta, rice, breads) low fat dairy products (ice cream, yogurt) lots of fruit and veggies, popcorn....but.(no pop, chips, cookies, cakes, candies..) Once in a while to have a lil treat (sml. bowl of chips or 2 cookies..but not on a daily basis. Lots of water also
But i would suggest talking to your doctor.........but a DIET -southbeach....is in my opinion Not Safe for a 5yr.old. To change the childs eating to healthier meals would be more appropriate more so than an actual Diet*

Thought I had heard everything, putting a five year old on a diet. Only if they are extremely overweight should you ever put a five year old on a diet.
Cut back on the junk food and fast foods! Use snack foods such as fruits and vegetables.

omg! please do not put a 5 year old on the south beach diet... any 5 year old that is that over weight should be seen by his/her doctor! and he/she should be eating better foods... its hard to get a 5 year old to be that over wieght unless all ur feeding them is fast food!! good luck and go see your pediatrician!

You should not put any child on a diet without first consulting with your doctor. There are excellent weight loss programs for overweight children that your doctor can refer you to. The primary goal should be to learn to eat healthfully.

omg, are you kidding?
If not, I'm sorry, but you should take the child to his/her paediatrician and get them to tell you what kind of diet if any they need to be on.
Don't just put your kid on a diet. At 5, a lot of kids still have a bunch of baby fat and they will grow into it.
