I have naturally curly hair, but people tell me all the time to straighten it. I noticed, in the black culture; blacks can't wear their hair natural because it's not in style. I believe if you have naturally curly or kinky hair you should wear it; however, people think its unprofessional or ugly.

I'm a black woman with naturally curly/wavy hair. I don't think anything is "kinky" about it. God gave me this hair, and I'm going to use it wisely. My hair is very diverse - if I want to go with a wild, mysterious look, I'll shampoo my hair and let it air dry. If I want to go for a sleek, sexy look, then I'll pull out my straightening comb and plug in my Chi flat iron. It depends on my mood. People cannot accept what they do not understand; they want things that they cannot have. I've seen many different races try to use all kinds of chemicals to make their hair do a certain thing. I've seen white guys try to force their hair into an afro because they think it's cool, and I've seen Chinese girls sport braids. It's a mode and example of fashion. Even though I hadn't personally encountered anyone who thought negatively of the texture and styles of black people's hair, I think people who have this narrow-minded perception are hypocrites. America has become a fashion melting pot: we get our styles and form our identities from people all across the world.

Ethnic cultures are starting to embrace their natural hair, I am natural and d@mN proud of it...

Even though no one forced blacks to straighten their hair we have always been taught the white man's standard of beauty....and we(society) are accepting all shades, hair types and features as beautiful....not just the straight silky blonde hair and and blue eyes.

I think wavey hair is beautiful and most guys do too. Poker straight hair is getting boring and everyone seems to have the same style. Go for some shape and stick with your waves!
