There's two questions here.
Grappling with faith by demanding that proof is necessary is self-defeating. Faith involves not requiring proof for belief, particularly trusting in the grace provided and accepting it without the need to see it occur in a physical sense.
Atheism, as I understand it (probably poorly) contends that where there is no certainty, there cannot be truth, and where there is only faith there is an inability to determine from feeling, emotion and speculation. Hence, atheism places a prerequisite for faith, where Christianity places no such prerequisite.
But I'm probably way off here. Would an atheist care to step up and assist?

First of all, as an Atheist I have no problem understanding what faith is, I just think faith is overrated and useless in many cases.
Moving on ...
Let's see, you say we cannot prove god doesn't exist. Do you have any idea that it is impossible to prove a negative? For example, can you prove to me Homer Simpson does not exist ? How about Santa? Do you see the point yet or has your head exploded by now?
I would think anyone with a third grade level education or above would know it is impossible to prove a negative, that something does not exist.
I hope this helps with your mental development....

J D:
Why do you keep posting this propaganda? Please read a book on atheism written by atheists so you will actually know what we believe and can critique it honestly.
Faith is conviction formed without testable evidence. I understand it perfectly well. It is magical thinking, plain and simple. We all engage in it in our infancy. But most of us observe over time that magical thinking is ineffective and magical rituals produce no results and we accept reality, learn to think critically and we insist on testable evidence and repeatable tests to confirm the facts.
Some of us grow out of believing in magic and some of us just start calling it "faith" instead. As an atheist I do not claim to "know" no god exists. I do "know" no evidence of any god thus far proposed has been produced and tested and those tests proven repeatable. So I am certain your god does not exist. If there is a god, it certainly isn't the blood-hungry, jealous, petulant god of monotheists, because by any reasonable definition, that is a devil, not a god.
Your faith is built on mere assertion and say so and personal testimony about unconfirmable and unrepeatable purportedly magical events which if such events occured at all, they did so without magic and occurred with the exact same frequency as complete randomness, which tells anyone with a smattering of intellect that mystical interpretation of those events is simply mistaken.

I don't have a hard time understanding faith at all. Let me see if I can help you.
"Faith is believing something to be true in the complete and total absence of evidence."
No problem understanding that. It's a ridiculous position to adopt, but lots of people seem to do it.

Atheism is the logical default- I'm like a stuck record the amount of times I say that on here but it should be emphasised. There can be no faith in accepting something that is logically correct and no evidence for God makes atheism the logically sound option.

I don't have faith that there is no god. I have no evidence there is a god, therefore, there isn't one. For me, that is fact. Until there reliable evidence to the contrary, I will consider that a fact.
For most of history, the world was flat. That was fact. Reliable evidence came along that proved otherwise. Now, the world is round, and that is fact.
Let's put it this way, maybe you will understand. Right now, I hold the fact that there are no other intelligent lifeforms on other planets, as I have no evidence of them. Let's say tomorrow, the "mother-ship lands", and out walk some lifeforms from another planet. I would then have new evidence to support the new fact that there is intelligent life on other planets.
So, it isn't a matter of faith. It is a matter of their being no legitimate evidence to conclude there is a god(universally speaking).
"To see by faith, one must close the eye of reason."

If a theist tried to descern how faith in not having faith in the existance of lepricauns...would his head explode?
He silly, atheists don't need proof there is no god. Just like you don't need proof there are no lepricauns.
Or do you actually need proof of that?
When are you going to prove to atheists that lepricauns don't exist?

Atheist don't understand.......like us Christians. However, I think they have faith, too. Nothing in the world is certain, everything requires faith. They don't have faith in GOD, but all athiest have faith.

Its an interesting paradox you've presented. But I'm a Christian, and I cant explain why Ive been given faith. I simply know I have it, and I know I love God. I cant pretend to understand how another thinks or feels...believer or non...only what I know inside my heart as truth.
