I have 2 pair of tiels. both are prolific producers. However, one of the pairs is a lutino/cinnimon and a pearl lutino. I don't want to keep breeding red eye birds. But, since they are such great producers I wanted to try and repair them with another set that I have. How can i go about switching the mates? should they be put into different rooms?

contrary to what many people believe birds are not monogamous for life. Rather, they are monogomous per season. Therefore, I pair them per breeding season and then split them up during off season. Then I can pair them with a new mate come next season.

No on the contrary I mix and match my cockatiels all the time. Simply change cages with one out of each cage with the other and leave the room. They will bond and probly begin breeding right away. Or it may even take them a day or 2. Eventually they will accept who ever is placed with them and begin breeding anyhow. I mix nd match mine year round and have many half siblings as well. I dont breed those related to each other, but mix the babies of the parents I desire and breed them for mutations I am hopeing for.
