is Celtic the same as Irish?

I've been looking for an Irish tattoo design but I can only come across Celtic so would a Celtic design be o.k ?

and yes, I'm Irish, i'd just like to add that fact because I was on here asking about Japanese symbols and someone said it was offensive to get a Japanese symbol tattoo unless your Japanese, and someone else said to get somethung from my own heritage so that's what i'm trying to do.

I am thinking about getting the Celtic tree of life

if you have any other ideas or know a good site to find Irish designs please tell me

No not really, Celtic and Vikings more describe the Irish. PS I went to Dublins 1000 year anniversary party and they are proud of their Viking roots !

more or less the same thing...
some english, welsh, and scottish, some french areas are also celtic..but most of what folks think of when celts are mentioned is irish and/or scottish.
BTW, I don't believe it is offensive to get a japanese symbol..I have plenty of caucasian friends who have japanese symbols on them..what is important is that you get it with respect to the culture and really understand what the symbol means...it is always important to understand the culture around any symbol you have on your body from cultures other than your own. When in doubt, I recomend asking people from that culture. (more than one, because all people are not the same even if they have similar cultures.)
I am partial to celtic or "tribal" design myself..

Quite traditionally, our Irish clients bring in many Celtic designs to have tattooed. There is nothing wrong with you choosing the Tree of Life.

You might wish to print some things off for your artist so he/she knows what's on your mind and will have a reference point to come up with something you will be happy with.

people always say we (I'm Irish too lol) descended from celts but there was this thing in the paper today saying we could have also descended from the basque region in north spain. nobody really seems to know..anyway its not offensive to get a Japanese symbol tattoo, I dont see how it could be, tons of people get Chinese symbol tattoos. its your body, get whatever tattoo you want :D

The Celts were the people thave occupied Ireland and Scottland...they were the pioneers I guess you could say...so yes..Celtic is the same as ancient Irish designs..and knotwork.

celtic was the people who were in ireland first,, then the britsh and italians came in and the scotish moved in as well to escape the britsh, Celtic refers to the old ireland and traditions

Exampls the celtic cross is from St Patrick who chased the snake from ireland meaning took out the old gods inforced crist int here lives and combinded the celtic sun god in to the cross creating the cetic cross to make the trasition easier for irish, it's honerable to wear a celtic cross meaning your linking yourself to the old ireland before the world changed
