Why after seeing so many bashings and hitting on various religions, our egos, our self-esteem... we religiously come back here to be humiliated every other day?

I was enlightened when I was told by Yahoo that I am top contributor of R&S :) The irony is, I ain't a religious one at all.

Is this section easy, fun, educating, additive or what; which makes us hooked up with it no matter how much we care.

I would love to know what you think and how do you feel about all this?

I have learned a lot.

I have learned what Islam is, and have learned some of their core beliefs. I have learned a lot regarding Islam's history. I have also learned a lot regarding the Koran.

I have learned what Christianity is all about, people here have given me a lot more answers than what I received when asking as a child. I have learned a lot more about the history Christianity. I have also learned a lot more about the Bible and am currently reading it.

I have learned that being an Atheist does not make one moral and rational. This is the biggest thing I have learned since I have been here. I used to attribute Christians as being harsh, condescending, hypocritical, and out to convert. I have seen more of that from fellow atheists in Y!A R&S than I have from theists. This has dramatically changed my outlook on life and humbled my opinnion regarding theists. At the same time there have been many great non believers and believers on here as well, and I look to them as an example of how people should be. I no longer place theists as the reason for why the world is such a horrible place.

There is a lot that I have learned from this site, far to much to list here.

I've learned some stuff. For instance I've learned that not all Satanists worship or believe in an actual Satan. I've learned that Pagans don't believe in hell or in Satan as well. I have learned that Islam has over 70 sects. I have learned the term for what I was which is Agnosticism. I'm Agnostic and I didn't know what to call it. I've learned a little bit about Polytheism and Pantheism and Deism and Taoism. I've also learned that Buddhism has a few sects as well. I come here I guess to see certain people who I have made friendships with. Of course just like anybody else I get frustrated on this site at times but I still come because it's a good way to kill time.

I think for people who enjoy theological discussion/debates, this section is awesome. I've met some cool folks from every spiritual backround and also met some really close minded people.

I think that YA! R/S section has taught me that we all basically want the same things from our religions/spiriual paths (peace, understanding, tolerance, selflessness) It's good that we can all come and defend misconceptions and talk openly about any r/s issues.

So yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head. For me, the R/s section is fun, educating and addictive. Not so much easy though, because many people come in here just to show off their inability to accept others beliefs or lack of beliefs.

I come here for several reasons. I enjoy the challenge of answering questions and explaining my faith. I've also learned a lot about other people's religions and why they believe what they believe.

And I also hope that maybe something I've said will help another person here. Wanting to help others is the reason that I came to Yahoo!Answers in the first place, and this forum has more than its share of hurting people.

It's not always easy to come here and see people attacking God and each other. But if I can make a difference in someone's life, it'll be worth it.

I have asked questions about other beliefs and have been educated. I have asked and been educated about science and philosophy. I am certainly addicted to this site.

I also feel a need to educate and defend those targeted by the religious crazies that we see here. Just because a person belongs to any one religion does not make them right and everyone else wrong.

I have come to admire many of the regulars here for their intelligence and wit. There are many wonderful Christians here that I adore and respect. Not all people of religion are the ignorant fundies.

Yup. Fun, educational and addictive!

I've learnt that there are people of all faiths that think deeply about their beliefs. Though they seem to be outnumbered by those that don't.

I've learnt that no-one is likely to be 'converted' by anything here.

I've learnt there are lots of interesting people with faiths I'd never heard of out there. And were it not for Y!A I'd never have been in contact with them.

I've learnt that there's something to be said for the creed of 'Be excellent to each other' however trite it sounds.

And I've learnt that some people choose not to be offended by other's opinions while some seem to find everything offensive.

Oh, and it's confirmed for me my belief that we are all more alike than different. And that it's just as easy to be polite as not.

Thanks for asking.

That people on both sides of the God debate are fallen humans.
1. Atheists/secular humanists are just as illogical and narrow-minded as what they accuse Christians of being.
2. There are many well though out atheists & Christians.
3. Muslims report anything that does not say (PBUH) behind the name of Allah or Mohammad.
4. That I don't understand why atheists are on this site R&S. Unless of course they are premoting their own religious views.
5. Most Christians are kind, as are some humanists. Some Christians-need a lot of work.
6. That discussing things in person is SO MUCH BETTER, than typing. Typing misses so much of communication that it isn't even funny.
7. That I don't like to type long drawn out answers unless I feel that it is worthwhile.
8. That Christians take pride in giving the chapter & verse to their thoughts instead of just speaking them.
9. That most Asks on here should have a period instead of a question mark.
10. That there are some people who really seek truth & that makes it worth my time.
11. I have learned much from asking questions.
12. I have learned that I come across offensively if I am consciece & get to the point. I need to work on that.

I have learned that, *GENERALLY*, humans are weak in their ability to critically think about ideaologies that are fed to them. I have learned that the majority of the people that prowl this site are hateful, mad, and feel completely justified in hurling insults at the world from behind the safety of their PC monitors. I have learned that, no matter how many times you explain a position or a theory, most religious people refuse to hear it. I have learned that the majority of the Atheists on this site know more about religion than the religious people on this site. And, I have learned that many religious people tend to judge everyone around them, despite what their religion teaches them.

And best of all, Ive reaffirmed my own lack of faith, thanks to the above observations.

so religious or not , the contact with so many is thrilling - no?
you learn the trails and tribulations of others! I believe what I believe , that's not gonna change ! but this is a lot of fun!

as far as the bashing is concerned - some just don't have etiquette , manners , are very hateful , oh yeah - you bet we are gonna be there to make sure to welcome him/her all in good fun of course! a few times you'll get p.i.s.s.e.d. but that's OK too.

so lets keep on writing! peace

I prayed for a site that would be a safe environment to ask my questions that I have about life. God and spirituality. I don't go into chat rooms but on this site I have received answers that have really helped me grow as a person as well as grow in the Lord. I have experienced emotional healing from the supportive and caring answers I have received yes I have gotten sarcastic and cutting answers but that is par for the course or just the way it is. I have learned so much on this site and it is a wonderful outlet to speak the questions that are on my mind and heart and I am blessed that there is a yahoo answers out there. Thank you for posting this question,

Peace be with you,
