To protect us from what? The bible says that unforseen occurences will befall us all. No one is protected from unforseen occurences. God's commandments keep us as safe as a human could be, that's why we're encouraged to read the bible and follow God's commandments. The angels are far more important than sitting there watching our every move to tell us to watch out for a crack on the sidewalk.

The Holy Guardian Angel is our Higher Self.
We all have many spiritual helpers. Ones that do things to see you laugh. And some to grieve with you when you cry.

I believe this angel is really called "common sense." As most people don't listen to their "angel," they get into all manner of trouble.
I hear people using the excuse that an angel was absent in their lives to justify that they have no common sense.
But, this is just my opinion.
