I have a meeting in Commack, NY early in the morning, but my flight gets in LGA at night so I plan to stay the night in Flushings. What's the cheapest way of getting from Flushings to Commack?

Is taking the taxi the fastest way? How much would it be approx.?

Under normal conditions I would not suggest this but you really should rent a car. The reality is that Commack is one of those rare places that the good old Long Island Rail does not go directly to so you gotta do some Mickey Mousing to get there w/ public transit
You say you're in Flushing but are you in the town or is that simply a geographical name ?
If you take public transit from the town of Flushing it looks like this :
take the #7subway train to Woodside
go downstairs to the next train platform
Buy a ticket to Brentwood on the Long Island Railroad - about $ 10.00 each way The ticket window is located on the side of the station that you need to be on
The LIRR will take about an hour actual time when you get off the train at Brentwood take a cab to Commack 7- 8 miles I have no idea what the cab will cost
If you hit everything right you should be able to do it in under 2 hours
driving would about half that depending upon exact hour and exact starting point

If you're driving, that's a 45 minute trip easy. You could take a cab but I would strongly suggest that you arrange to have a car service make the round trip. If you just hail a cab from LGA, it's metered so you will not be able to control the costs. At least with the car service, you can control the expense. To find out an approximate price, call LGA's taxi stand and ask for the average cost. Also, if your meeting is a hotel/motel in Commack, many hotels provide shuttle service to the airport for free. If that's the case, call the hotel and make arrangements for your pick-up. I hope this helps.

Rent a car or use the LIRR. As you may know rents can be pricey, so I would suggest the train (Long Island Rail Road) it cost about $7 to $8 but your going east so during rush hour it should be cheaper, and you can buy a round-trip ticket for getting back to your hotel

got to http://lirr42.mta.info/index.asp they have a list of schedules and it will tell you how long the ride is.
