I had it towed to my usual garage and they still cannot figure out why it turns on but won't stay on...should I take it directly to a Nissan dealership and have them look at it. It was bought new and havs never had a problem before. It only has 75,000 miles on it. What could the problem possibly be?

Got to maxima.org

They can tell you how to use the onboard ECU to check whats wrong with the engine.

It is really easy and will only take about 15 minutes!

My old maxima did that to me a couple of times it could be a couple of things. Vacume lines could have come off or mas air flow sensor in gone or unpluged.

usually if you just turn the key to the on position you can hear the fuel pump. hope this helps.

Had similar problem with my r32 skyline. Thought it was my fuel pump and replaced it and still stalled at low revs. Ended up being air flow meter ( AFM ) maybe something to look at?

Bad fuel pump.
or...
Something in the gas tank that gets sucked up into the pickup when running and then drops out when it stops.

Neal and R32 are probably right, I'd look at the MAFS and MAF harness plug.
