Hotel/resort/spa recommendations?

Hi, I'm looking to stay by the beach in Los Angeles for a few days to relax and rejuvenate myself over spring break after a stressful semester, and just getting out of a long term relationship unexpectedly. I want to be close to Venice Beach and the Sant Monica Pier. Keep in mind I will be going alone, and will stay 2-3 nights. Thanks.

Try the Hotel California if it is still there in Santa Monica...
