I am thinking about getting either a #1 or #2. I here that some guys get the sides and bottom cut shorter. Do you think I should go with the sides and bottom shorter. Do I ask for a fade or taper. I want a uniform look, not the high-n-tigh look.

What to do with your hairstyle should be something that you discuss with your stylist/barber. Only they can actually know what will look best on you, you see your head and face shape play into the decision along with your hair type and texture.

When talking to your stylist/barber try to avoid asking for a #1 or #2, the reason for this is simple, not every manufacturer of clippers measures their guides in the same way. One person’s #1 maybe 3/16” another may be 1/16”. Not sure what each measurement looks like on your head? Ask the stylist/barber to start off a longer and work their way down to a length you like.

I give you this advice as a hairstylist.....Good luck.

why don't you try a #2 on the sides and back, and a #3 on top, then the stylist will blend the line between the two. this is called a clipper-fade, a blend of a fade and a buzz-cut. it's an attractive easily managed cut
