Is everyone smarter than me?

I only know 1 language. ENGLISH!
But it seems almost everyone I know now, they got to know English, Spanish, French, Chinese, at least 4 or 5 if not 8 or 10 languages.

Gee, I know English probably 2 or 3 times better than most, but, I still feel dumb.

Does anyone else ever feel this way?

A language is a tool for communication. If you know how to use the tool you have well, be proud of that. Learning more languages for learning's sake is like having a garage full of tools you never use.

Just because you don't know another language, that doesn't make you dumb. The only other language I know is sign language and that is only because my brother used to have alot of friends that were deaf and I picked up the ability by being around sign language.
If it bothers you that bad, why not take an on line course in another language that is of interest to you? learn the dialect, and feel better about yourself.
I am not dumb by no means. And the only language that I can speak fluently is English. I do know a little Spanish but not well enough to speak it fluently.
They say we choose to feel how we feel, so choose to feel smart instead of dumb.
People that are dumb are just people who are not willing to learn more knowledge.
I bet you are smart in other ways, that those who speak many languages could not comprehend.
say for instance, they speak many languages, but do they know how to navigate the Internet, or a computer, or fix a car?
everyone has their certain abilities that they are good at.
I bet you have some really fantastic abilities.
Believe in yourself and those things that you can do.
not in what you can't do..
by the way.. Can't means " I won't" Can means " I will"
just a small note of expression. Or Self Will.

I know how you feel... I am English, and am learning Swedish and i'm finding it a little difficult... It makes me wonder how most people from a non-English languaged country can speak perfect English so effortlessly! But don't let it get you down or make that think you are stupid... You can still be intelligent and only speak one language :)

You shouldnt feel dumb about that. Unlike other parts of the world, Americans arent required to learn a foregin language.
You may try going to your local library and getting some language tapes and work on learning a new language, or take a class, if it bothers you that bad.

You seem to handle yourself pretty good in English. And how you feel has not really something to do with the reality of things.

Yeah, I can feel like that sometimes....but not often. Mostly I feel utterly alone in my tower of intellect...then I go on-line, answer a few questions and all is well again. ;-)
