Joe Frazier defeats Muhammad Ali in the first of three epic bouts. Frazier defends the world Heavyweight title in a star-studded Madison Square Garden. Also Kit Symons, Welsh footballer was born because the fight was SO GOOD that his mom squished him out on accident. Also Harold Lloyd, American actor (b. 1893) died because the fight was SO GOOD that he just dropped dead from cancer. It also happens to be International Women's Day because the fight was SO GOOD that women decided to mark it as their day. That fight was SO GOOD that it changed everything. I celebrate it in a very Christmas like fashion. MERRY FRAZIER/ALI DAY!!!

"THE FIGHT! But more than just a fight it was on this day 36 years ago boxing (in particular the Heavyweight Division) got the shot of life that lasted somewhat albeit wheezily into the early 1990's.
A reincarnation of Ali and Frazier is too much to ask for but I hope that boxing (in particular the Heavyweight Division) does get another shot of life from somewhere soon. Until then we can all look forward to Klitschko/Austin; do you think 36 years from now anyone will ask this question about March 10, 2007?

Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier of course. This was the most anticipated fight probably ever as Ali was trying to regain the title that he felt was always his and Smokin Joe Frazier wanted to let the boxing world to know that he was there to fight. Every known celebrity was there and this was definetly a marquee matchup of two great fighters. I have never known a fight before or since that was big as in terms of a build up and importance to so many people. Of course Frazier was the winner handling Ali his first career loss in a very historic fight.

The Fight of the Century: Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier as a 4 yr. old kid I still remember family members talking about that fight for months before it happened. That fight at that time was a big deal and maybe one the most highly anticipated fights of the 20th Century.
