Yes it is stealing, unless the employee whose lunch was eaten gave permission, and it also isn't very smart.

We had a problem with uneaten food disappearing from the refrigerator of the communal breakroom. One of the employees got permission to set up a hidden camera, and the refrigerator was baited with a nice sandwich from a sub shop. Camera caught one of the roving guards taking the sub from the fridge. The guard lost his job as a result. Funny thing: after he was canned, not only did thefts from the fridge stop, but the pesky theft of small items from people's offices also stopped.

I think work is such an inhuman task that people lose their morality. It was happening here so frequently that it became a major issue. There were corporate emails about it, and no one was ever caught. However it did stop. An intern, who didn't know anyone, and had no knowledge of the thief, witnessed a transgendered person digging through lunch bags in the breakroom fridge. I assume that Pat has to be the lunch thief, but I never told anyone.

If they eat it without asking or having it offered, yes it is stealing. What if that person whos lunch was stolen only has a little bit of money? Should they provide everyone elses meal? NO.

weird question by the way

Yeah, I think it's stealing and I have no idea why somebody would do it...I mean, ok, they might think it's better than the lunch they brought but it's just not a nice thing to do.

On the fridges where I work there's a big sign that says "Hey! Eat your own damn lunch!" I guess it must happen a lot!

If it's mainly a poor job such as engineering, building or other poor jobs , employees are likely to steal lunch because of the situation, they are not raised well and simply think that stealing is normal, or perhaps the employees could be starving because of their situation, if it's a decent job and employees steal food then it's either abusing or simply just being starved, and yes it is 100% stealing if it happens.

Well the name on the lunch might not be large enough to see. Or this person just doesn't have a name on there lunch so they deserve to have it eaten. It is stealing.

If they are eating another person's lunch without permission then it is stealing. It would be rude to even ask for someone else's lunch.

It is absolutely stealing. Did you see the post a couple of days ago from the guy who put baby poop in his sandwich to see who was eating his lunch when they ate it. Funny stuff.

Yes it is stealing and it is called being a mooch! My brother-in-law was always having to bring in his favorite coffee creamer because other shifts were stealing it, it even had his name on it and the words hands off. So one night he replaced a majority of the creamer with liquid laxative and needless to say it never got used again.
