I would also recommend that you use Zicam; either the nasal gel or swabs. They do shorten the duration and severity of a cold. However, there have literally been hundreds of cases where, after using zicam, the user felt a burning sensation in the nasal passages. After a while, they lost their sense of smell; what we call anosmia. Zincum Gluconicum, the main ingredient in Zicam, seems to affect each person differently. So if you want to take the risk, try it.

Use Zicam nasal swabs at the first sign of a cold. It shortens the duration as well as the symptoms of a cold. Extra vitamin C helps too. There is no cure for the common cold, but there are things that help the symptoms.

Since there is no cure for the common cold, the best way to fight it is to treat the symptoms and assist your body's own mechanisms for dealing with disease. Try to rest, and drink lots of fluids, even beyond your thirst. Make sure you take a good multivitamin so your immune system operates at peak efficiency. Finally, since colds are spread via respiratory droplets, try to cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and wash your hands frequently.
To fight the symptoms, tylenol is helpful for fever and aches. There are plenty of "cold/sinus" formulas with tylenol to cover sinus pressure and runny nose. If a sore throat is part of the picture, a syrup like Nyquil/Dayquil works great.
If you spike a high fever (>103), or if you symptoms get worse or persist, see a doctor.
