These two sites should help. They have all of the updated security requirements:

Good luck with the trip!

It largely depends on the airline, and the policies of the country you depart from and are destined for. Check the airlines website for more specific information.

there are, however, certain things you can always take with you. As a frequent traveler, I always carry certain things with me, namely:

1) An iPod or a book. Staring at the back of the seat in front of you for 6 hours or more is NEVER a fun thing to do. Trust me, one one flight I actually got so bored I started counting the threads used to make the seat cushion.

2) A granola bar, or some otherwise dry, easily contained snack. Granola bars (and to a lesser extent, PowerBars) are great snacks during a flight or at the airport, particularly on long flights without meals or with a child-sized bag of pretzels for a 5 hour flight. Usually the bar is filling enough to get you to wherever you need to go to get some real food.

3) Earplugs & Eyeshade (particularly on overnight flights), these can be great for the general sound of a plane which can get annoying after a while, and the eye shade is important on those red-eye flights where the guy in front, next to, or across from you won't turn off his damn reading light!

4) A spare pair of clothes: having had my luggage lost by the airlines pretty much every other month, I always pack an extra shirt, pair of underwear, and light pants (usually sweats or basketball shorts) in my carryon, so I at least have something to wear the next day.

5) Medications: never, EVER, pack your medicines in your checked in luggage, always carry them on. Though remember, if you're travelling with liquid medications over 1oz in size, you will need to have a valid prescription accompanying the bottle.

6) ID, Cellphone and a Credit Card: Always keep these three things on you at all times. Even if everything else gets lost, make sure you have these three things since they'll be what you need to book a hotel room, get food, check in for your flight, book new travel arangemetns etc, etc...

Goodluck, have fun!

Get 1 quart zip lock bag. Any amount of bottles, makeup, creams that are 3oz or less can go in there. But you have a limit on only 1 bag, They have to be 3oz or less, you cannot get away with, lets say,,,a tube of toothpaste that's rolled up because you think it's less than 3oz. you have to look at the size of the bottle. You can also take your camera, laptop, or video recorder in your carry on. Just keep in mind that if it's a film camera, remove the film from the camera. The xray machine will ruin your film. Take all your valuable on your carry on. Everything else has to be checked in. Hope this helps. And also, check out tsa.com. It will tell you in detail what you can and cannot take on board with you. Also....any snacks or drink you buy at the airport cannot be taken passed the security checkpoint. They will make you throw it away!

you can pack basically anything your little heart desires in your checked baggage...with the exception of flammables and explosives (unless you are military) in your carry on luggage however you are a lot more restricted. you are able to carry on 3 oz of any liquid, gel or aerosals, in a QUART size see through plastic zipplock bag. no sharp objects, no weapons, the common sense stuff that every one knows not to bring on a plane. examples of liquids gels and aeros are:
toothpaste
lip GLOSS (not stick)
perfume
tide to go pens
any thing other than the stick deodorant
hair spray
shampoo
conditioner
nail polish
mouth wash
etc.

hope that helps

lap top
cd player
ipod (or other mp3 player)
books

if you can avoid it don't take any liquids because that is just a big hassle, you can only have like 4 oz and they have to be in a clear quart sized container.

if you have a list of what you want to take and don't know if you can or not go to the TSA web site, they have a complete list of items that may not fly.
