I'm not sure I would use the word "concentration"...
I much prefer the word FOCUS.

In some martial arts, when a practitioner becomes proficient enough, the responses and reactions are automatic and do not require any thought at all.

I always thought of concentration as "cogitation on the task at hand." Cogitation requires observation, analysis and decision making. Focus can be instantaneous.

"Martial arts is a way of life" is a mindset, a different way of looking at things and (most of all) INSIGHT!

"Workouts and the self defense" is just the mechanics of the discipline.

I think concentration is the biggest part of martial arts. I concentrate more by sinking my chi and staying calm but very awake and quick at the same time.
