There are different types of private clubs. Generally, private means you must be a member or a guest playing with a member. Many private clubs allow outside tournaments for charity, so that's one way to get to play. At ultra-private clubs, those are the only ways you will get to play. At other private clubs, you might be able to play during their off season (for example, in Florida in the summertime). Also, the golf professional might do a favor for another golf professional and let you play. You would have to know the other golf professional and most likely play with him/her.

The easiest way for the average guy to play a private club is to enter a tournament being played at the club.
Another way is to get a part-time job at the club. Most of them are usually looking for some sort of part-time help and you almost always get to golf there too, usually for free.
Most private clubs are very strict about making sure all players are with a member, or are members at a different private club.

You either have to be a member or a guest of a member to get on.....another way is to become friends with an employee of the club, they have the right to get friends and family on from time to time.
