the best way to get rid of flabby obliques, or love handles (and not so much to get rid of them but to tone them) is situps. i know thats such a simple answer, but if you do regular situps or crunches, and then alternate every other time sitting up to either side, your obliques will tone noticably within two weeks. keep it up and you'll be gettin' love because of your love handles, truly giving credit to their name.

Side bends.
Broomstick twists
Hanging leg raise/twist (from the door frame)
Lying on floor torso twists from the hips
leg cycling with upper body twists.

Combined with some light cardio for 20 - 30 mins a day.

Pilates is a good workout for that. You can buy DVD almost anywhere and you can do it at home without problems.

The not eating exercise. and side crunches. actually you can't lose fat in one spot you have to lose it everywhere
