My wife left me last last September after 18 years and now I have moved to a completely new area and would like to meet new friends, but to be honest I don't know where to start. I am not a pub or nightclub sort of person and in my job I only meet customers and have no work colleagues as I am self-employed. I am thinking of going to America this summer to buy a yacht to sail back to the UK. But I would like to make some friends first. Any suggestions?

Oh, I know what you're going through! I split up with my ex last November after a 13 year relationship. It's hard moving on and trying to re-adjust to the single life. I don't really have any suggestions because like you- I don't really go to clubs or get out often enough to meet anybody and besides I have a 1 yr old daughter to take care of. (why don't we become friends?) You obviously like sailing- how about going to the pier and checking out the scenes there? Anyway, sorry I can't help you very much. Good Luck :)
