the air u take in normally is cleaned and moistened by your nose, when running it doesnt get time to be moistened or cleaned, because people forget to breathe properly, ie in through the nose and out through the mouth, the burning is the cold dry and dirty air drying out the back of your throat and trachea

My old P.E teacher told us that it was when you were burning calories efficiently or when your body is working at it's best. Don't know how true this is, it was probably just to kick our a rses into gear!

that would be massive amounts of blood pumping from your heart to your head going through your arties since the blood travels so fast it keeps its heat so thats what your feeling
