How is a black person betraying their race by voting republican? After all it was the republicans who moved to end slavery during the civil war when the democrats tried hard to keep slavery as in institution. It was the republicans who pushed for the passage of the 13th amendment. It was the republicans that fought for equality in the south during the reconstruction period. It was the republicans who tried to get civil rights legislation passed in the 1950s while the democrats tried to stand in the way. It was a republican president who sent the national guard to little rock to integrate the schools while the democrat governor stood in the way.

And what did the democrats do? Supported slavery and opposed its end. Gave us segregation and jim crow laws, not to mention lynchings and foundation of the Ku Klux Klan. A democrat president appointed a former KKK member to the supreme court in 1937. The democrats weakened the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and fillibustered the civil rights act of 1964 and the voting rights act of 1965. Not to mention the fact that the democrats currently have a former Klan member in the senate, who a few years ago used the N-word on national television.

But other than that, why would a black person want to vote republican?

The question is loaded. The nature of the question supposes "blacks" are betraying their race by voting one way or the other. Anyone in America has the right to vote however they want. Conservatives could say "Why do so many Americans betray their country by voting Democratic?"

Black people vote Republican because they think that party has the right ideas. Furthermore, something like 90-95% of black people vote Democratic. I wouldnt call that "so many".

Betray has nothing to do with voting Republican. There are smart blacks who realize that to stand on their own two feet instead of relying on handouts is a very good thing!

I'm neither black nor republican, but I don't believe they vote that way to betray their race. It is just how they feel they should vote and are entitled to their opinion.

What? Are you serious when you asked this question? Why do you think it is a betrayal to the whole black race to vote for who an individual think is a better candidate? Voting democrat is not a black culture thing! I will vote for whoever I feel like it!. Do not tell me that since I am black, I have to vote Democrat. I am sick and tired of hearing about how this or that candidate is trying to win the black vote. Some Democrat are to smug when it come to votes from black. and you need to be more careful in that when it is going to be the latino vote that are going to be after more than yours!

Um,

I I recall,George Wallace was a Democrat. The majority of the votes in congress for the 60's civil rights agenda came from republicans almost in lockstep, and the strong majority of democrats opposed giving America's promise to blacks.

Republicans have appointed more blacks than democrats to the bench, to offices in the executive, than democrats. Republicans have run more blacks for governor than democrats.

The history of race relations has been the dems keeping the black man down..

What exactly is it that democrats have done for African-Americans?

It was a republican who ended the democrats filibuster of the civil rights act. It was a republican who ended slavery. It was a republican who established the office of minority enterprise, and made Martin Luther King Jrs birthday a national holiday, appointed more African Americans to cabinet level positions, and on and on.

Seriously, what have democrats done for African Americans?

Don't think they betray their own tribe.
Just that they were following where the wind blows and set sail together in planet of apes.
Ever wonder who were at loss being stranded and left behind with time in planet of apes?
