People have been saying that the end is near for 3,000 years, and EVERY time they are wrong.

Why do they keep doing this?

And better yet why do these idiots listen and believe that they are right?

If the end of the world is going to happen then it will happen without all these idiotic predictions!

I think part of it is a bit of egocentricity. The events that happen in your own lifetime seem much more important or catastrophic than those that happened in another time, becuase you are living in the midst of it! And people are looking for catastrophic events as signs of the end. So, they see things like 9/11, hurricanes, tsunamis, corruption, etc, and it genuinely feels to them like we are living in a very corrupt and catastrophic time period. They don't realize that when the Plague was happening in Europe, or the fire of London, or the reign of Nero, that THOSE events seemed just as, or more catastrophic than these events going on today. So they have a skewed perspective. They really feel like this is the time, because bad things are supposedly supposed to happen, and they think that the worst things are happening in their very own lives.

I can do without the name calling, thank you, but just in case you want a REAL answer:

There have been different End of Days days: There was the End of Days for the people of Noah's time. There were two "End of Days" days for the Israelites. The temple in Jerusalem was destroyed as prophecied and on time in 607 BCE and for the last and permanent time in 70 CE. All that within the last 3,000 years.

There is still the final "End of Days" to come at God's good pleasure. If adjustments have to be made from time to time, what exactly would be the harm in that? Think about general emergency preparedness. You hear a hurricane or other natural disaster is coming and you prepare. The forecast is wrong and the natural disaster either never occurs or hits somewhere else. Were you wrong to be prepared. Do you know what one of the biggest concerns is for emergency management people? Those individuals who say exactly what you did. They keep warning and they're always wrong so I'm going to stay put. Or I'm going to ride it out. I'll be safe. What happens when the prediction is finally accurate?

Or perhaps like in major cities where we are encouraged to be ready for anything. To have a "go bag" and plan of action in the event of a terorist strike. Constant preparedness for when the time comes.

So what's better? To remain in a state of readiness no matter how long it takes or get swept away? Think about it.

It's sad because when the time comes and warnings are given, most will ignore them as another wolf cry. We don't know when, but we are given the signs to watch for and encouraged to be prepared. When the two witnesses begin their ministry you will know the time, 3 1/2 yrs they will prophesy, at the end of that time they will be martyred and their bodies will lay in the street. After 3 1/2 days, they will be resurrected right on the street, and will ascend into the heavens. This is a sign I feel will be impossible to misunderstand, although it is written that many will still not get it.

The only time they've been wrong is when they have predicted a specific date for Christ's return. But Christ Himself told us that we will know when the End is near, just like we can look at the buds on the trees in Spring and know that Summer is near. We look at the Signs of the Times. Jesus told His disciples this 2,000 years ago, not really for their sake, but for ours, because He knew it would be recorded and we would read it. Daniel's prophecy has been sealed up until the time of the End, and now it has become known. His prophecy predicted the rise of the Medo-Persian Empire after Babylon, then Greece, then Rome, then the Divided Europe and the rise of America. People back then would not have understood it, but we can look back now and know that it is true. His prophecy also predicted that America would start out as a Christian country, but would end up speaking like Satan. I'd say his prophecy has been well-spoken.

it's probably for the media's attention....but we've been told the end is coming, the end is coming, it was supposed to have come in 2000 right? Well, we're all still here so live your life as though it is the end, have as much fun as you can, change lives, whatever it is you fancy. Who cares what people try to predict! I think it's just a way to reinforce living life to it's fullest! Let others believe what ever they want. I'm not so concerned about when it will end only that my own life will end some day and I want to be remembered for making it the best I could.

They are out to prove something...prove they are wrong & not worth listening too that is.

Better than predicting the end is how you live today.

Edit 1-
Which is why I am not a Mormon. The LDS figureheads/leaders Joseph Smith & Brigham Young have made many SPECIFIC prophecies that never came to pass.
Which is also why I do not follow many other religions, such as the Jehovah's Witnesses, moonies, that Hale-bop comet thing, or Jim Jones' fruit punch club down in Guyana.

I don't agree with people predicting the exact day, because the Bible tells us that no one knows the day or the hour. However, I do agree with people alerting others of the signs that God shows us. The Bible tells us to watch and pray for we know not the hour. As a Christian, I want to spread the goodness of Jesus to all that I can so that they can choose God and His everlasting loving kindness and be ready when that time comes. God bless you.

They're wrong, because they're false prophets. Jesus says that NO MAN knows the day nor the hour, that the Son of Man will return. Only God the Father, in heaven, knows.

When folks give specific times and dates for the second coming of Christ, don't listen, just make sure you're ready to meet your maker.

It says in the scriptures that we are in the last hour of the last days, and that prediction was given over 100 years ago. That is why I think it is getting close, but we shouldn't dwell on it to much. I have to worry about being a good person and preparing for the last days.
