Necessary for whom?

For those who orchestrate and manage the war, it apparently is necessary to them.

I can think of many theoretical instances in which it would be necessary to wage war to reach a certain end, but those instances or ends in and of themselves are not necessarily justified.

War is the health of the state. The state is by it's nature aggressive. It's tax funded so war is very likely to occur, since the principals (taxpayers) are so far removed from the agents (politicians) meaning essentially that those who incur the costs have far removed interests than those who pay the costs.

War unfortunately is part of reality, sometimes it is necessary but mostly it can be avoided , bad judgement on some peoples part makes it inevitable.. look at what happening in the world at this moment in time..Is it really necessary or just greed..OIL being the main word and PRESENCE being the foothold on foreign soil , the ingredient that starts wars..so you tell me is war really necessary... Depends on the war you're talking about.
The American revolutionary war was necessary.
WWI and WWII were necessary.

The mess we're in now in Iraq.... totally unnecessary....

I'm afraid so, as long as there are terrorist, and anarchists and tyrants there will have to be people who are willing and able to draw and line in the sand for those who can't protect themselves, and say,"This shall not be". I was glad to serve, and felt honored to help those who weren't able to help themselves!
