You'll have to go to your county clerk ... usually they'll have a list of officiants that are available. I'm sure you could send them an email or call a hotline number and ask what you need to do.

Doest take long. Just find the number and call. Open the phone book or ask the operator.
My ex and I were married by a JP with only 2 hours notice.

Call different JP's and find out when they can be available. I would look in your local yellow pages rather than online. Once you have your JP you can pretty much plan the rest of your wedding.

To find an officiant type into Yahoo your city, state & wedding officiant (no 's' onthe end) You will have a few to choose from, usually on the 2nd page. The larger bridal sites seem to get top biling. If you do go to the bridal sites, please visit the site of someone you think you might like. Those bridal sitems make vendors & officiants pay for youe contact info so you may not hear back from someone you'd hoped.

Here in CA we just called the county recorder's office and made an appointment for the wedding. They tell you to show up so many minutes ahead of time for info and paperwork and filing, in our case it was 30 minutes.
However, remember that state and federal offices shut down on weekends and holidays. You might have to schedule it for a Friday or Tuesday.
Just show up with your birth certificate, photo ID, and a witness for each of you. And don't forget the camera!

i had a jp wedding. we had to go 3 days before and get our marriage liscense. it was very casual with just our parents, and later we had a huge party/cookout at our house with both our families. it was fun, and if you can't afford to have a huge wedding I think it's a good idea.
