my daughter is almost 12 yrs old she is overweight and has me real concerned about her health..I'm real scared she might get heart problems if the weight doesn't come off...She weighs more than me and wears bigger clothes..she weighs 191 lbs. and is wearing a size 14...and only 5 ft tall...How can I help her lose weight safly and keep it off ?Please help....

Try putting her into sports that she likes. As well as cooking alot healthier. Baked food salads, Veggies stuff like that. Go out and do certain sports with her or go to the mall and walk around things like that.

Well with her being the age she is, she doesn't want to feel like she is on a diet. Make sure she eats a good breakfast, no sweet cereals. Don't give her money for snacks at school, if she likes raw carrots pack those as part of her lunch, raw veggies take longer for the body to digest and therefore it keeps your stomach full longer. Get her into some activities that might interest her, you have to be involved too so she doesn't feel alone. Take her to the mall and walk, walk, walk. Cardio is great for burning calories. Eat a lighter meal at night so all those calories aren't resting on her stomach at night. It can be hard for a child that age to deal with the teasing at school, which if she hasn't experienced already she will. You could both get a gym membership and make it fun, do it with her. Areobics classes are great!!! No more take out either!! Try to stay away from anything that has enriched flour in it as well this will pack on more weight. Use a whole grain bread instead of white. Sara Lee has some great breads. If you have a dog, make it her chore to walk the dog everyday. Soon the weight will melt off and you will see her confidence rise. Good luck and don't be hard on her it will make her not want to do it.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

Get into a sport you can enjoy as well like jogging, cycling, skating, rock climbing, swimming and get her to join you. Change your diet and the diet of the entire house. Stay away from fast food, oily food and stick to veggies, fruits and healthy recipes. Show her pictures as well (to shock her out of her complacency) of people who are far too over weight, pictures of really fat people who died from their obesity and tell her straight to her face that if she doesn't start losing weight, she will develop problems as she gets older.

i am in the same boat as you i have a son 11 years old 5'5 and 240 i dont keep junk in the house but he oftens visit his grandparents and they were letting him have his way i took him to the doctor in fear that he could have diabetes or heart troubles they found nothing wrong just told me thats hes overweight even though hes tall for his age taller than me to take him to weight watchers and guess whose paying for it his grandparents but i am to blame too now i make him eat fruits and veggies no matter how much he cant stand it and make him go walking with me in the afternoons bc i figure if we lose weight the healthy way and when the weight does come off to keep them eating right and exercising just up their calories they should be fine stay in touch with me and maybe we can help each other
