You should wear your retainer as directed by your orthodontist or dentist. Because chances are you are wearing a retainer after braces right? Well, not wearing your retainer which is designed to keep your teeth straight, will allow the teeth to move. They can move back together or further apart, or whatever. But they will move, to really answer your question and if your retainer has not been worn in a long while, it might not even fit because your teeth have moved dramatically. Hope this helps.

Slowly, but surely, your teeth will start to shift and all that money spent on braces will have gone down the drain. You should see your orthodontist and let him know that you haven't been wearing your retainer. Your teeth may have already begun to shift and maybe they can do something about it before its too late and you have to go back to braces.

As long as it still fits it means there are no teeth moving so its okay. If you can't place your retainer in it means the teeth have shifted and that can be trouble. As long as everything is staying like it should it will be okay.
