our kids are 8 and 11 any suggestions?

The only suggestions that I have to offer you is to observe their activities and things you notice they like and search for things in your local neighborhood pertaining to the things, they'll like to do. Although, it never hurts to ask them what they'd want to do.

Well my 8 and 12 year olds like things like this:
mini golf
baking
skiing
movies (at home or in theater)
singing kareoke
bowling
skating
hiking
thowing a football/softball/basketball
camping
Just about anything that involves a bit of interaction between all of us.
