Trying to find out the best way to hold a golf outing in RI. the players are mostly in the high 90's, afew in the 80's, a few in the 100's. this is only for company spirit and a fun day. I am trying to really make it worth while, so i here are my questions: what courses are good for this type of outing if you are from here (RI)? can i get a discount for for 40 or more people? What are normally the best days to go during the week for a better price? are there any sponsors out there that would donate in exchange for promotions? what is the best way to go about a raffle? Any suggestions, ideas etc would be appreciated. I play quite a bit, but i have never done anything like this. i would ask people in my company if they have done this before, but i am trying to impress the boss a little.
thanks, in advance, for your responses.

I can't advise you on the best courses in RI, because I am not familiar with them, but I can help you with the rest of your question. Most golf courses encourage this type of outing. I would suggest sticking with a public or semi-private club for the best deals. You want to make sure that you chose a course that is in nice shape but not extremely challenging so everyone has fun. Courses usually have some type of a discount for 40 or more people (the numbers vary). Monday is often the best day, but again that will depend on the course. You'll just have to ask.

As for sponsors, you'll have to do some legwork there. It certainly is possibility, but usually sponsors prefer charity tournaments. Check with local businesses. If you use your imagination, you might be able to work some type of trade.

As for raffles, 50/50's are popular. Also, if you run the tournament as a scramble, or captain and crew (which I highly recommend), you can offer team skins. We have the teams throw in $20 and then split the money (cash) among the teams that had skins. Also, tee gifts are the great idea with your company logo. You can usually arrange this through the pro shop, or check in the internet.

If you chose the right club, the local PGA Professional can be extremely helpful. He or she runs these types of tournaments for a living and is used to answering these questions.

Good luck finding a suitable golf course!
