Any thoughts? It gave me a little glow of pride when I saw the little organge label under my name, but seeing as fireball226 is also listed as a top contributor it clearly has its faults...

Well I dont have top contributor and feel left out.

I may not ever get that designation because I surf around trying to answeer questions in many areas where I think I can help. I dont stick to one or two areas. If I know the answer or can contribute I answer the question.
Others here stay in certain categories building up points in that area. What is our goals here anyway?
To help others or to get distinction?

Personally, I do not think it a good idea to have this Top Contributor thing, or Top Person {with the highest points) at the top of each catagory. It could possibly create arrogance and even self-righteousness in the minds and hearts of some people.
We are mature adults, we do not need to be put up high on a pedestal.
Learning humility brings lasting wisdom, knowledge and understanding. I simply disregard our little orange top contributor box, it does nothing for me.

The fashion faux-pas orange sign thingy? It was a bit surprising when it showed up. Yahoo is being a bit cagy about how we get them. It's hard to tell if you get it just for answering lots of questions, or because you have a respectable "best answer" rating, or if it's just the opinion of the YA staff that you're doing a good job. All they've said is something about a hamster wheel, which makes me think it's more or less random. Without knowing what exactly it means, I pretty much have to assume it doesn't mean much of anything.

Yahoo!Answers has given me a brand new life. I didn't like my old one very much. They have had an award banquet, and given me the award you see in my picture. I have also received a certificate that says "The Level 7 Black Belt Award" along with a really nice jacket. I have received a Y!A t-shirt, and a very nice hooded sweatshirt for my contribution to a "greening earth" volunteer project. I received a toy that says Yahoo when it is opened.

In exchange, I made needlepoint coasters and name tags which I gave to most of the Yamsters, and one of the founders of Yahoo.

I love Yahoo!Answers.

I was like - wow whats that? But it is kinda like points - pretty pointless

Well at least you can spend points, and maybe get a sticker sometimes. Stickers still motivate me. Maybe as a top contributor I'll get an extra sticker. LOL

Well they do serve a purpose. Think about it, it'd be a lot harder to pull of a convincing clone of a Top Contributor what with this orange bar hanging around.

Personally, I don't like it because it chops off the last letter of my screen name.

Its a rather dumb equipment particularly. It keeps human beings from answering in different type's! you want 10% of perfect answer or more suitable positive, the the more suitable you answer and the a lot less you get perfect answer........Kiss that badge reliable bye! it truly is dumb i understand! Least you had one at one aspect. human beings on aspect 2 have one and that i do not........ Makes no seance!

It's stupid. I have a higher percentage of best answers than most people who are "Top Contributors" but since I spread them over various categories, I get nothing. There should be a "Supergirl" thingy for getting best answers in many topics.

I think it's fine. What I don't like is the huge info box that pops up if I merely move my cursor over someone's face and the info box covers their entire question or answer.

I originally thought it was a cool thing but I have since decided that it is an orange banner warning others that we are particularly loquacious and type fast.
