journey, i think it will always(or should) be.

Religion is the journey and Heaven is the destination.

But we do not all pick Religion as our journey but we still end up in the same destination. Hell does not exist. Even if you dont believe in God you will still end up there just on a differnt plane and you may have to come back again.

But Heaven is our Home and we all long to go back. But the journey is real. It involves pain, sorry, happiness and wonder.
We take the journey of life together.

It is about both...but primarily about the journey.

It is like hiking through the woods towards a mountain...you have to be aware of what is going on presently and enjoy the journey, but if you don't look up occassionally you won't reach your destination and you will be lost. The hike is for the journey - the fun of the travel - and how far you can get towards the destination not the reaching of the destination.

The destination is unity with God...perfection.

Definition of religion:
1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
4. the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
5. the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.
6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice.
7. religions, Archaic. religious rites.
8. Archaic. strict faithfulness; devotion: a religion to one's vow.

Religion is a destination with an agenda. To be truly Christian however, is to truly follow Christ.

Romans 12:2 says "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is."

I take this to mean that we should not conform to man's idea of religion, but be changed and begin our journey with Christ.

religion is a PATH on a journey. It and of it self is neither a journey or a destination.

All aspects of learning could be considered a journey, however, journies end. Spiritual education and growth never end. It is neither a journey or a destination. It is a way of being.

No matter what you believe, life should always be about the journey. Religion dictates how your decisions are made throughout the course of it.

Religion is a distraction from the personal relationship with God that Jesus made possible on the cross.

That's what religion "should" be - a relationship.

You don't need to perform rituals or meditate or try really hard to "experience" God - you just need to come to him realizing that Jesus made it possible for you to come to him.

So I guess of your two choices religion should be more like a journey walking with Jesus - he said "follow me" and we can :)
