It really is so hard to predict these things because there are so many variables involved. Unfortunately it sounds as if he has other significant health issues to deal with as well. Instead of trying to put a time frame on things, enjoy the time you do have and try to make it the best time of his life. It's about quality not quantity, and I pray he has a wonderful quality of life until he does pass.

You need to look at the american cancer society web site. There you will find a lot of information on each type of cancer. Their are 5 year survival rates depending on the stage of the cancer. I would think if he is in an advanced stage he will not have that much time. Usually the earlier it is the more your chances are of beating it. He's 80, so he may not choose to go through any treatment and reduce the quality of his life if he's older anyway. Sometimes it's not worth it to go through chemo, it could make you extremely sick.
If you know the stage it's in you should be able to look up the percentage of people in that stage who live 5 years after diagnosis. He'll be in 1A, 1B, 2, 4, etc. Usually stage 4 is very bad and has already spread to other parts of his body and he has less chance of being cured. An earler stage is better for him and also you will find info on how quickly or slowly it will progress, all cancers are different. Good luck to you and your family.

It's impossible to say. He could very well beat this cancer again, have the hole in the intestine repaired, and take coumadine to dissolv the blood clots in the legs. There are too many variables here. Questions to consider include . . is he in relatively good health? What is the stage is the cancer?
He may even be able to 'outlive' his cancer and pass away 15 years from now from 'natural' causes.
From the limited information you provide . . it may be too soon to be 'writing your boyfriends grandfather off'.

it is a true miracle of God for someone to live with those crippling side effects of adibilitating disease like cancer. Only The Lord can set a time limit on the lenght of time he remains on Earth. the only thing you can do is enjoy the time that you two may have left. Look to the future and not back to the past.

It is difficult to say. I only know that normally in older people cancer takes more time to grow, because the production of new cells is much more slow then in a young person.

There's really no way of telling, since there are so many variables. He's an elderly man, so he's probably not going to beat it this time, but he sounds like quite a fighter, so you never know. My prayers are with him.

IN my opinion its hard to tell when a person is going to die. I feel bad for this man. I guess all you can do is to help your boy friend out and be with his grandfather til he passes away. Time will heal all wounds. Good luck to you all.

Depends on the degree of cancer he has, the treatment he is getting for it and his will to survive.
