"Gealach" (from geal "bright", a cognate with English "yellow) is the common word for moon in both Irish and Scottish Gaelic; "ré" and "easc" are alternative words for moon in Irish and Scottish Gaelic but are considered more literary and poetic. Easc was used a lot in Old Irish.

Welsh belongs to a different branch of Celtic than Gaelic and it uses the word "lleuad" for moon. It is a cognate with Latin luna.
