a) take it to the vet, make sure it is not a parasite, because ring worm or ear mites will cause that.
b) keep your kitty inside if it is having fights all the time. An indoor cat lives on average 10 years longer then an outdoor cat.

All those above who said to consult a vet are right. It could be mites or fleas. A single flea bite can cause much discomfort and many cats have allergies to them. You can also end up with a house full of uninvited guests!

You should not let your cat run loose as it can end up with any number of immune diseases from other cats. (HIV etc.)

Get your cat in for a checkup, put him on a quality natural food with a feline multi-vitamin and you will notice an amazing change to his coat.

I haven't found may topical solutions that are safe to use on cats for cuts/itching/sores and such. Doc Ackerman has a great product or you can try the solution I use for my cats. I mix 8oz of filtered water with 10cc of aloe and 15 drops of grapefruit seed extract. I pour some on my hand then squeeze in Vitamin E from a capsule and rub it in the affected area. It's soothing and the GSE kills bacteria. It is safe for the cat to lick it. If your cat is found to have ringworm then don't touch it directly as it can spread. You can get those items at any health food store by the way.

Good luck!

take him to the vet so e/she can diagnose exactly what it is. if he isn't neutered already, ask about having it done, and it might help if you keep him indoors.indoor cats live longer. we live by a pretty busy road, and i can't tell you how many dead animals we see. i would never want to go out and see my kitty laying there.

sounds like ear mites, get some stuff from the store, and put it on the cat

That sounds like it could be ringworm -- sometimes iodine type stuff will clear it up. I will take him to the vet. It also could be an autoimmune disease and they would give him something like prednisone to help him heal. Beth
