My friend is going to give me a starter next week, and I don't know many people that live near me that bake, so I would like to send some to out of state friends and family. Is this possible?

It would be sooooooo much cheaper to send them the recipe. Depending on the pkging and if it goes via plane -- the pressure could explode your container (from the fermentation). I personally would not chance it - send them a recipe. If you are in the mood for the bread, just don't continue with the process and bake a couple of loaves for yourself.

Here is a link to the King Arthur Flour website that has a tip for drying starter. It listed under storage. I would think you could ship this since it's dry. http://www.kingarthurflour.com/tips/tip48481.html

Send them the "Dry" Ingredients with instructions to add the liquids, you'll remain friends longer
