That the citizens of the U.S. are in some way obligated to them to continue fighting the insurgency in Iraq for as long as it takes?
I think you guys forget that the Union (the U.S.) is much more important than the military. You are a part of the overall country and therefore your mission is defined by the U.S. tax payer not your patriotism.
We as Americans are not obligated to continue to fund you guys unlimited to fight a war that is at a stale mate. Support the troops or not... the troops do not determine when the war is over...we do and i think, we've had long enough in Iraq.

So basically if I have served in combat I have a right to criticize you right? Wow you guys are dumb! Must be marine corp or 12Bravo's. I was a combat photographer in desert Storm and I say what ever the hell I want to say to anyone's face, enlisted or not, trust me you aint gonna do nothing about it but whine like here on yahoo.
No one's blaming the soldiers but it's the soldiers who seem to think we owe them an unlimited amount of funds to fight this stalemate forever and the fact of the matter is...we don't. As far as most of america disagreeing with me...well all you have to do is watch Fox news and read a newspaper to see that most American in fact agree with me. It's you bone heads who just don't get it.
Oh yeah about this war...Good luck with that, since we can't even protect our own borders.

Huck, get a clue.
The fight isn't over until the Generals say it's over. Anything other than that is defeat. Look at Viet Nam. Politicians got involved and look what happened. We need time to get this right.
GEN "P" has the best plan for this campaign. It's going to be the most effective plan that's come out. We're already knee deep in it and there are some very positive effects.
To say that you have had enough is just silly. Since all you have to do is change the channel to get away from the war. Let the rest of us win this.

"I think you guys forget that the Union is much more important than the military."
I think it's YOU who is forgetting something. Who protects the Union? I'm not saying one is more important than the other... they're apples and oranges. However, they certainly have a relationship... one cannot survive without the other.
It's stunning that you ever served because the rest of your question is just so.... odd. Your whole rant is odd. It lacks common sense.
Oh wait, you were a combat photographer.... in Desert Storm. You took pictures of people working and got in their way and they made sure nothing happened to you.
Go back to your cabin in the woods and finish your manifesto. Invest in a ghost writer though.

you're partially right. but you can't blame the soldier for his patriotism or his willingness to obey orders. policy is not set by the tax payers, per se',policy is set by the politicians whom the voters elect into office.just being a tax payer does not give you the authority, nor the moral right to dictate policy.if you want a say so in the whole scheme of things, then you must cast your ballot, or better yet, run for office.
but remember we live in a democratic society, so the majority rules. you don't have to agree with the result, but you have to live with it until the next election.
America has been encouraging democracy around the world since it's start as a country. but we need to stand by the results, however unpopular, or we are just hypocrites.
a case in point. the recent democratic elections in Lebanon placed into power, the hamas party. the hamas party does not espouse the same political beliefs as our government. but , at some point we have to allow them to make up their own minds. we all have a right to be wrong. and it is only through tact and diplomacy that real change can be made.
and before any of you start to un-leash on me, i have served in uniform, i have stood a post,i've had people shoot at me, and i have the right to speak my mind.
you don't get to judge me till you've walked a mile in my shoes.

The soldiers do not make the decision when the fight is over. The politicians, whomw you are a part of electing, tell the soldiers when and when not to fight. The people in uniform, risking their lives, are doing so because they have been ordered to...and because they know it is the right thing to do. If you had family in the world trade center...or if your cousin had been flying in a plane to come home from college, when terrorists hijacked it and it crashed into a field...would you be this ignorant? Of course not.
Secondly, I am in the U.S. Navy, and I tell you this: I fight because I truly support and believe in freedom of opinion and right to choose. People who are against the war have my support just as much as the one's who agree with it.....BUT, PEOPLE WHO BLAME THE WAR ON THOSE OF US IN UNIFORM ARE DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO BEING AS FANATICALLY IGNORANT AS THE TERRORISTS....AND IF I EVER MET YOU FACE TO FACE, I WOULDN'T BEAT YOU.......I WOULD SIMPLY SIGH AND WALK ON....BECAUSE I AM SO MUCH BETTER THAN YOU ARE.

So you think that we have an obligation to you - but you have no obligation to us.
I bet you have never - not even once - done something that was not for your personal benefit.
Real easy for you to feel brave behind that keyboard - why don't you talk to some Iraq veterans and find out why what we have seen in Iraq leads us to support our cause?
PS - how does it feel to know that the people who agree with your politics are the ones who will do _nothing_ to preserve your freedoms?

Military personnel pay the same amount of taxes that every other U.S. citizen pays unless we are in a war zone. So we should have just as much say as you do.

You and people like you need to get one fact through your thick skulls. YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE REST OF US.
You keep thinking America agrees with you. IT DOES NOT!
Look, a majority of people poled say they are unhappy with how the war is going. That is true. BUT THERE IS A MUCH GREATER NUMBER THAT WANT TO QUIT SCREWING AROUND AND WIN IT then there are people like you and those you follow who want to pull out prematurely.
