I assume you want a hard boiled egg, not soft-boiled.
First, put the egg into the pot and fill with cold water to just cover the egg (if you put the cold egg into boiling water it will most likely break). Bring the water to a boil. Cover, turn off the heat, and let the egg sit for 10 minutes.
This should give you a nice hard-boiled egg with a yellow yolk and no green around the edges like when you boil it too long.

If you put it in while the water is boiling, the shell is likely to crack.
Put the egg in the pot of water before the heat is turned on. I am told that adding a pinch of salt helps keep the egg from cracking. I don't know how true this is but I do it anyways.
After the water starts to boil, time the boiling for about 10-15 minutes.

I recommend Deeshamon's answer. Put the egg in cold water, set pan on heat and heat to boiling, boil two or three minutes, cover and set off heat for about 20. I've never had a problem with this method. By the way vinegar is added to the water to keep an egg that has cracked from running out into the water so much. If you start the eggs off cold in cold water, you should have much of a cracking problem.

first of all, you have to put a pot of water on a hot stove and put the egg in there (the water must cover the entire egg). Dont wait until the water starts boiling, put it in there right away. Now let the water boil down until it is not covering the egg any more or until half the egg is showing, more than half. This is to be sure that the egg is done, you can run cold water in the pot with egg when its done so that it wont be to hot.
Peal then enjoy.
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

Pierce the blunt end of the eggshell with a pin, place in boiling water. Since water boils at a lower temperature at high altitude, you're going to have to experiment a bit. I live at 1500 ft. and my eggs take 5 minutes. At a lower altitude it will be less. The test is to take the egg out of the water and away from the steam and count the seconds until the shell is completely dry. It should take 10 seconds. Over 10 it's not completely cooked, so put it back for 30 seconds, under 10 it's on its way to being hard boiled. Put it back in the water for another 2 minutes. Mark it so you know it's cooked and use it in a salad.

Everyone will have their own way.
My way
Put the egg in cold water with some salt (the salt helps the water boil quicker)
Bring to the boil. Time 4 minutes from when it starts boiling for a soft boiled egg. Time 10 minutes for a hard boiled egg.
One boiled egg.

If all else fails, there is a fantastic product of Phillip called Electric Egg Boiler. It comes in 10 receptacle for eggs. There is a timer and instruction for u to use. Whether u want to have hard boil or half boil. And when it's done, theres a buzzer telling you that the eggs is ready. It just need just a bit of water and a needle poke on the air side of the egg. This egg boiler never failed me, its easy and fast.
