I am 21, trying to pay for school on my own, I don't have any family. All I have time to do is work, school and sleep. I know that all this will pay off when I graduate so I am trying to hang in there, but because I have to pay for school myself it's taking longer than 4 yrs to finish, and I am getting discouraged. I really want friends and a life, but it's not possible because all my free time must be spent at work or studying. Because I am so tired and frustrated with my life it's hard to make friends anyway.
I found a place a can get cheap counseling, but I'm not sure if I should go or not because I'm not depressed everyday. I only get depressed about once a month for 2 days or so. Should I see a counselor or not?

Yes! If you're asking this question, then you must feel you need some kind of help. Go there, have a first intake meeting. Talk to the counselor about whats going on. They will set up a schedule of how often you will see them, and you will probably have some input into that.

I highly recommend counseling to anyone. I've been before, and its is incredible to have someone who just listens to what is going in your life. And i mean really listen!

Try it, what can it hurt?

NO! You do not need a mental health counselor. The psychological stress you are experiencing is caused by being overworked. Try taking fewer classes. I suggest between 10 and 12 semester hours per semester. It is difficult to study and work at the same time you only have so much time each day. How many grade points do you earn each semester on the average? Calculate that number. When you have calculated that number use this fomula:

Average grade points earned/ semester
__________________________________ = GPA I want

number of semester hours

I find this formula works quite well and is very predictive.
(accurate within + or -10 per cent of predicted value)

You should investigate other sources for financing your college studies, such as goverment grants and loans as well as funding sources from foundations that may be available to you.

This plans should work for you. You seem like a smart and intelligent person. If you find this plan does not meet your needs consider the following:

1. Take evening classes.
2. Take college couses through the mail.
3. Take courses from colleges and universities online.

Example: It is quite common for evening students to take 6 semester hours while hold down a full time job. Decide what you objectives are and then formulate a plan that works best for you!!! GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY STUDYING!!!!!

You don't have to suffer from depression to see a counselor. Counselors can help you sort through your feelings, emotions, stress and just life. Counselors will be there for you when you need to rant/talk/vent. And, if depression is (or becomes) a problem, they'll be there to help!
I think you should talk with one and see how it goes. It sounds like you're under a lot of stress--maybe talking with one would help.

Good luck!☺

The time spent seeing a counselor could be spent hangin' with a friend.
Find a friend in class. When you study together, it would seem like hanging out instead of straight studying only.

Depressed 2 days a month sounds like PMS to me. Quite normal. No point in wasting time and money on a cousellor.

I think your doing a great job, investing in your future, keep it up!! For the present though, you can't leave empty voids ( no personal like, no escapes etc.....) for to long or it'll catch up with you. Seeing a counsellor isn't a bad idea, give it a try and it might be the beginning's of a fresh start.......Good luck.

Does your school have a counseling office? I know I saw one when I was in college, it was a great help.
