I don't know. I know that you can be a latter day saint and be born-again. If you ask Jesus into your heart and accept him as your Savior then you are saved. After an LDS person does this, I don't think they could stay in that religion very much longer. Their doctrine just doesn't coincide with what the Bible teaches us. I think the Holy Spirit would led them to a Bible believing church.

The LDS Church is stretching itself by calling itself Christian. Yes the name of the church has Jesus Christ in it, but the teachings of the LDS movement run contrary to Orthodox (maybe I should say traditional) Christian teachings. The LDS Church (the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, the Utahn/Bringham Young denomination) has the most members and is the most recognizable in the world. They have spent billions of dollars making warm-fuzzy commercials and films depicting the LDS Church, Joseph Smith, the restoration, wonderful hymns and programs, etc. as a doctrine-established "true" church. If you take a look at the life of Joseph Smith, you will find two distinct takes of his story. There was a reason why he was persecuted and his teachings were really far fetched. The Book of Mormon accounts the story of Lehi and his family leaving Israel and sailing all the way to the America's and starting two great races of people who were Jewish, then one group fell from grace, etc. Why isn't there any trace of these folks? There is not a scrap of evidence anywhere to support this. Most of the Book of Mormon was lifted from Isaiah. This was not a miracle, it was plagerism. The message of Jesus was clear. love God, love eachother. Pretty simple. I think people need to have some sort of difficulty in order to acheive a sense of accomplishment. Joseph Smith couldn't bring anything new to the table, so he created it. The temple ceremonies are probably the most odd of all the LDS teachings, why are they almost identical to Masonic ceremonies? Temple marriages were and are the LDS church's excuse to continue and hide plural marriages. No one speaks of them, and no one is allowed in to the temple unless they are a paying member. Philosophically, the messages of Christ and Smith are on the surface, semi-identical, but dig deeper and you will find many holes in LDS theology. Try to get your hands on a Book of Mormon from the first 5 editions and one from today, you will find things have been changed and modified. If you research what Smith taught and wrote and you will find holes in a lot of things ranging from his revelations/ translating the various scripture, etc. I really think that Jesus got everything across that needed to be said. He gave instruction on how to live and preserve what he taught. If Joseph Smith was restoring the "truth" and the way it should be, why was it not revealed in the Old Testament, why didn't Jesus say, there are going to be a few more folks coming to give you some more instruction, but since I am God's son, I am not worthy of giving it to you. LDS beleive that Joseph Smith gave them the formula for salvation which departs from Judeo-Christian teaching. So although the main Morman church has the name of Jesus Christ in it and that they talk about him all the time, doesn't mean they are Christian. I was a convert to the LDS church and a very active member for several years, I got wise and started poking around and found it to be contrary to my inner core beliefs. We can convince ourselves of anything and we can do this by asking the Holy Spirit like Moroni promised, it may be right and truth for you at the time, but if you are serious about your salvation, you will learn that Smith's message false and mourn the amount of money, time and souls have gone into protecting its misleading message.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I assure you that members of the church are christians & we believe all the teachings of Jesus Christ. We use the Book of Mormon as a companion book of study to the Bible. We compare the scriptures together, as for the reference in Rev. 22:18-19 the Bible is compiled of 66 seperate books &that is referencing just the book of revelations & the phophecies from that one book not any other books. In fact the Book of Revelations was not the last book of the Bible that was written it is only at the end of the Bible because that is how it was compiled & it deals with future prophecies.
As for Joseph Smith he restored the gospel of Jesus Christ. After Jesus ascended into heaven slowly His apostles were killed & died of natural deaths. When they were all gone Jesus' Gospel teaching went with them & people began interpeting Jesus' teaching in their own way. Joseph Smith through the power of The Holy Spirit restored those teachings the way Jesus taught them with none of mans interpetations.
We believe that Jesus is the one & only Savior & that only through Him can we make it back to our Father in heaven.

The Book of Mormon does NOT contradict the Bible, I know I've read it several times.
Think of it this way, let's say you are doing a research paper, do you limit your research to one source absolutely not.

Yes, us LDS folks observe Christ as our savior.
Personally I don't understand the whole "real Christian" - "fake Christian" thing - who are we, as humans, to make such a judgment?

Being a member, I get this a lot, but there is a very simple answer, we are the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. If we did not belive or follow his teachings his name would not be a part of the church's name. I am a real Christian, no question, hands down.

Christians believe the trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) equal, one God, therefore they are monotheists. Mormons teach that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three different gods.
Mormons also teach that good Mormons males can grow up to be gods of their own planet.
The Holy Bible teaches us that by grace we are saved. Mormons are taught that you are saved by the Book of Mormon and by your works.
The Holy Bible clearly lays out the plan of Salvation and needs no other "book" to help it along.
Christians and Mormons are taught two different things. There are very little similarities between the two. However, Mormons use Christian terms but they mean different things.
Rev. 22:18-19 will tell you what happens when your add or take away from the Biblical text. That will cover the book of Mormon.
