I'm just wondering because if I won, I wouldn't want everyone to know who I am.

no it is not mandatory that they have to claim the ticket themselves. i watched a program on this subject and they were saying it is best to wait about a month to claim the ticket and put it in someone else's name so that you dont have friends you didnt even know you had with their hands out.

You could always give the ticket to someone you trust. That person would be the legal winner and you would have to hope that person shares the wealth with you.

Lottery winners have to be identified by the lottery comission because it helps prevent them from handing out the lottery winnings to themselves or to their friends and family. If they lottery winners were allowed to remain secret then it is possible for lottery officials to rig the winnings.

Great question!!! I've wondered about this, too! I don't want hundreds of "friends" to suddenly come out of the woodwork if they see me on television. Unfortunately, this isn't a problem yet, since the most I've won so far has been $2!

Usually there's a waiver on the back of the ticket saying you will appear for publicity if you win.

In Ohio you can request that your name not be released. You can also claim your winnings through an attorney.
